Montenegro is a special country. Offshore for Eastern Europe. It has beautiful nature, the sea and that’s really all.
The disadvantages for me are
- The prices. Sometimes higher than in Germany (food, rent).
- Corruption on all levels. It’s not a constitutional state, it’s a clan state.
- You can even have a notarised lease, but that doesn’t mean the landlord won’t kick you out in April.
- 80 per cent of properties for sale are built illegally or have massive construction defects.
- There are two prices everywhere: one for locals and one extra for foreigners. Want to buy something at the market? Sure, but it won’t be from the farmer, it’ll be twice as cheap from Albania.
- 20/50 euro notes are better than a lot of paper: for the police, border controls or authorities.
- The Germans are just seen as stupid Corona deniers with money, and the property prices fit in with that.
- There is also no real infrastructure like doctors, good roads, trains etc.
It’s a great country if you want to spend the rest of your life there and just live in your villa.
Of course there are many good things about MNE, but all in all they are not that important to me.
