Business Case

What is AI visibility worth to your business?

51% of B2B software buyers now start their research in an AI chatbot instead of Google, 69% chose a different vendor than planned based on an AI recommendation (G2, “The Answer Economy”, March 2026). This calculator translates that shift into your numbers: pipeline, revenue potential and – if you enter a budget – ROI and payback period. All assumptions are disclosed, every constant runs in three scenarios.

Your numbers

1. Industry

2. Demand on Google

Tip: use the impressions of your informational keywords from Google Search Console, or the search volume from tools like Sistrix, Semrush or Ahrefs.

3. Citation rate

How do I measure this?

Here's how to measure your citation rate: put 5 typical buyer questions from your niche to ChatGPT and Gemini (e.g. “best CRM software for SMBs”). Count in how many answers your brand appears. 2 of 5 mentions = 40%. Unsure? Start with 10–20%.

4. Commercial metrics

aggregated rate from lead to close (incl. MQL→SQL)

5. Budget (optional)

With a budget, the calculator shows ROI and payback period. Without it, you see the revenue potential.

The calculation runs without tracking scripts; your inputs are not stored.

How do we calculate this?

Methodology & data sources

ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity don't publish search volumes. This calculator therefore uses a proxy logic that derives the order of magnitude of your AI potential from sourced market data – a calculation aid for the budget decision, not a forecast.

1. AI shift model. The starting point is your Google search volume for informational B2B keywords, to which we apply industry-specific shift rates. Basis: according to the G2 study “The Answer Economy” (March 2026, n = 1,076, global), 51% of B2B software buyers start their research more often in an AI chatbot than on Google. Responsive (“Inside the Buyer's Mind”, 2025, n = 350) shows: for around a quarter of all B2B buyers, GenAI has already overtaken classic search; in the tech segment 80% use GenAI at least on par. The shift rates for tech (25%) and industry (15%) are conservative derivations from these figures, not direct study numbers.

2. Clicks and brand recall. Direct clicks from AI answers are rare: Pew Research (July 2025) measures around 1% clicks on source links for Google's AI overviews. We therefore calculate in three scenarios (1% / 3% / 5%). On top comes brand recall: users remember cited brands and search for them directly later – according to G2, 85% of buyers rate a vendor more positively when AI cites it. Recall rate (5% / 10% / 15%) and conversion assumptions (2% website, 4% brand traffic) are assumptions based on market-standard benchmarks, set rather cautiously: Ahrefs and Semrush measure well above-average conversion rates for AI visitors.

3. The switch risk. 69% of B2B software buyers recently chose a different vendor than planned, triggered by AI recommendations (G2). The risk scenario applies this rate to the share of AI search volume where your brand is not cited today – an illustrative scenario, not a forecast value.

Limits of the model. The studies are based on global or US samples (Responsive: n = 350); adoption rates in the DACH region may differ. Search volume counts queries, not people. Clicks and later brand searches can overlap. The Pew click rate is measured on Google AI Overviews, not on ChatGPT. The calculator shows orders of magnitude, not guaranteed values.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate the ROI of AI visibility?

From four inputs: the AI share of your search demand (an industry-specific shift rate applied to your Google volume), the gap between your current and target citation rate, a lead funnel from direct clicks and brand recall, and your closing metrics (AOV, lead-to-close). Measured against your planned annual budget, that yields ROI and payback period. All constants are laid out openly in the methodology.

How many B2B buyers research in ChatGPT instead of Google?

51% of B2B software buyers start their research more often in an AI chatbot than on Google; in April 2025 it was still 29% (G2, March 2026, n = 1,076). 69% chose a different vendor than originally planned based on an AI recommendation.

How do I know my current citation rate?

Quick test: put five typical buyer questions from your niche to ChatGPT and Gemini and count in how many answers your brand appears. The number becomes reliable through a measurement across many prompts, engines and repetitions – that is part of my AI visibility audit.

Does the calculator replace a measurement?

No. It shows the order of magnitude of the business case based on market data and your inputs. The actual citation rate, the gaps per engine and the actions to get there only come from a measurement at the prompt level.
